Quick answer
Follow the steps using fictional examples and verify each GitHub or Vercel screen before making irreversible changes.
Vercel can build a website when GitHub changes are pushed. This guide explains a common workflow for a small static site, not a verified deployment of a particular repository. Review your project settings before making changes.
Before you begin
Prepare a GitHub repository that builds locally, access to a Vercel account and control of your domain’s DNS records. Ensure your project does not expose private files or secrets in client-side code.
Method guide · not a product benchmark01Import the Git repository
In Vercel select Add New Project and connect the appropriate Git provider and repository. Confirm the repository, root directory, detected framework and output settings. Never assume build settings are correct merely because import succeeds.
02Verify a first deployment
Deploy and inspect the build logs. READY means the deployment built successfully; independently open the resulting pages and test navigation. Fix build commands and missing environment variables if the deployment reports an error.
03Understand Preview and Production
A push to a non-production branch generally creates a Preview; changes merged to the configured production branch trigger Production. Verify the exact branch and protection settings in your project. Avoid publishing draft content simply by merging blindly.
04Add a domain and configure DNS
Under Project Settings and Domains, enter your registered domain. Follow Vercel’s displayed A, AAAA or CNAME instructions at your DNS provider. Do not overwrite unrelated email or verification records; wait until Vercel shows a valid configuration.
05Check HTTPS, canonical URLs and indexing
Open the site from an incognito browser, verify HTTPS and the intended redirect from apex to www (or the reverse). Check canonical links, robots.txt and sitemap.xml if supplied by your app. Google Search Console and AdSense require separate setup and do not automatically approve indexing or ads.

Audit this proposed Vercel launch checklist: repository branch, build output, public access, DNS, redirects, canonical URL, robots.txt and sitemap. Flag missing checks. Do not claim to have opened or deployed the website. Context: [paste project details].
Worked example
Fictional teaching example — not a product test or a real customer record.
Starting information
Example: a static project with a verified build output and a domain you own.
Expected result
Expected: Production resolves on your chosen domain after DNS validates; Preview remains a separate deployment.
Before you use the result
- Never include passwords or access tokens in the repository.
- Confirm permissions and correct branch before making changes.
- Verify real output in the service; this example is not a test result.
